Infection Control
July 11th, 2011
World Hand Hygiene Health Promotion Day was followed with a visit from Majella Hotton, Infection Control Specialist at University College Hospital London.
She facilitated a two day workshop that emphasied hand hygiene in a care environment. Practical aspects of the workshop involved staff and residents coating their hands with a specialised gel. All were encouraged to wash their hands after to remove the gel. Following this a specialised ultra violet ‘Glow Germ’ unit was used to assess the level of gel residue remaining after hand washing. This indicated the area of the hands not washed properly.
This workshop was attended by all staff and a number of residents. It was very informative and all who attended enjoyed the presentation and interaction.
