The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The residents at Portumna Retirement Village had a very special visit last Thursday from the Knock branch of the Society of St Simon and The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Two representatives joined the residents for mass celebrated by Fr Michael Byrnes. The residents were given scapulars blessed by Fr Byrnes.

According to the Vatican's Congregation for Divine Worship, the Brown Scapular is "an external sign of the filial relationship established between the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother and Queen of Mount Carmel, and the faithful who entrust themselves totally to her protection, who have recourse to her maternal intercession, who are mindful of the primacy of the spiritual life and the need for prayer”.

The residents were very grateful to the society for their efforts and for coming to visit
