The nursing home at Portumna Retirement Village opened in 2007. Since then it has won awards for the quality of care and has been very favourably commented upon by HIQA (Health Information and Quality Authority). The most recent inspection report from HIQA can be accessed here.
The nursing home can provide accommodation to sixty three residents. Most accommodation is by way of private rooms, but there are also twin rooms available should couples wish to share. All rooms have en-suites. Each room has its own TV.
In addition, there is a choice of day rooms (on both floors), quiet visiting rooms, a small library, and a hair salon. The retirement village also has its own chapel and a community & social centre.
The nursing home at Portumna Retirement Village caters for the individual needs of each resident - an essential aspect of the caring process. The Care Manager endeavours to match the ideal staff member to each resident, to cater for preferences of male or female, quiet or lively, casual or formal. Activities of daily living are carried out at the resident's pace, with the emphases on maximising potential and personal control, enabling choice and respect for dignity. By taking the time to get to know each of our residents, we nurture a friendly and happy atmosphere that residents, relatives and staff alike warm to right away.
